Black Lives Matter FREE Yarn Bomb Banner // Crochet Pattern

Personally, I would love to be marching along with the people demanding justice, but my immunodeficiency and this pandemic keep me indoors. I figured that I cannot be the only one in this situation, and what do people do when they spend a lot of time indoors? We crochet!

This is a small project that you can use to display your support for the BLM movement, but why stop there? If you purchase this $1.30 printable and ad-free pattern I will donate 100% of the proceeds to the BLM movement.

The definitions for all crochet abbreviations used can be found here.

Gauge:

In a 1 inch by 1 inch square of stitches there should be 4 sc and 4 rows of sc.

Materials Needed:

  • 4.50mm Crochet Hook
  • Medium Weight Yarn (Red Heart Super Saver)
  • Scissors
  • Yarn needle (metal recommended)

NOTE

The number in parenthesis is the number of stitches you should make in the indicated color, for example: B (10) means: “sc 10  in Black.”
And W (5) means: “sc 5 in white”

In this pattern, black will correspond to the background, and white will be the font color, but feel free to change this as you please!

The most prominent lines place a mark every five spaces for better reference when counting. For the given gauge, a base of 88 stitches should be enough for the average street light post of 11’’ diameter, but keep in mind that this might be too much or too little for some posts. This graph was placed in the very middle of the banner. If you’re not sure how to read this graph, the witten instructions can be found below:

Using a yarn needle (metal recommended) sew the sides of the banner together around the surface that you’d like to display your work. It doesn’t need to be the most neat sewing technique, but the banner needs to be tight to avoid it slipping down.
