Abbreviations:

  • Ch: Chain
  • Sc: Single Crochet
  • Sl st: Slip Stitch
  • Sc inc: Single Crochet Increase
  • (xx): Numbers in bold mean stitch count at the end of each round

Gauge:

In a 1 inch by 1 inch square of stitches there should be 4sc and 4 rows of sc.

Materials Needed:

  • 4.50mm Crochet Hook
  • Medium Weight Yarn
  • Scissors
  • Yarn needle (metal recommended)
  • A stitch marker (I use colorful paperclips)

PATTERN:

This skirt pattern is worked separately from the amigurumi’s main body. To crochet the amigurumi base before or after the skirt, visit the Classic Doll Base Pattern.

When it comes to adding a skirt or dress to your amigurumi, color coordination is key to achieving a stunning finished product. To craft a charming skirt that adds a touch of whimsy to your amigurumi, consider mismatching the colors of the top and the skirt itself.

On the other hand, if you’re aiming for a more polished and coordinated look, opt for a dress using the same yarn color that you used on the amigurumi’s top. This cohesive color scheme creates a sense of harmony and elegance, perfect for creating sophisticated characters or timeless designs.

Whether you’re drawn to the eclectic charm of a mismatched skirt or the classic appeal of a coordinated dress, the choice is yours! With our simple yet effective techniques, you’ll be able to transform your amigurumi into stylish fashionistas in no time.

Worked in-the-round:

  1. Ch 18, sl st to the first ch to form a circle. Ch 1 and sc 18 around, sl st to the first sc of the round. (18)
  2. Ch 1, (3sc, 1 sc inc) X4, sc 2, sl st to the first sc of the round. (22)
  3. Ch 1, (4sc, 1 sc inc) X4, sc 2, sl st to the first sc of the round. (26)
  4. Ch 1, sc around, sl st to the first sc of the round. (26)
  5. Ch 1, (5sc, 1 sc inc) X4, sc 2, sl st to the first sc of the round. (30)
  6. Ch 1, sc around, sl st to the first sc of the round. (30)

This makes a skirt that is able to wrap around the amigurumi’s torso. Place the “waistline” between rounds 25 and 26. Using a yarn that matches the skirt’s color and a yarn needle, sew the skirt to the amigurumi’s waist grabbing only the outermost stitches to create a seamless stitch.

Once the skirt is securely attached, be sure to hide all yarn ends for a clean and professional finish. With this final touch, your amigurumi is one step closer to becoming a true work of art, ready to delight and enchant.

Pro tip:

Take your amigurumi fashion game to the next level with this tip: match rounds 26 to 29 of the Classic Doll Base Pattern using the same color as the skirt, and continue by matching the first 2 rounds of each leg. This clever trick creates the illusion of your amigurumi wearing a skirt with matching shorts, adding an extra layer of style and sophistication.

The possibilities are endless when it comes to customizing your creations. Experiment with different colors, textures, and styles to make your amigurumi truly unique.
